Ecuadorian Ambassador Visits Tulane

March 29th, 2011

The Honorable Luis Gallegos, Ecuador’s Ambassador to the United States, visited Tulane University on Monday and spoke with a number of professors and students. Conversation topics included bilateral relations with the United States, and Ecuador’s commercial, cultural, and touristic potential, as well as the possibility of establishing a cooperative effort between Ecuadorian universities and Tulane. Ambassador Gallegos also paid a visit to the Latin American Library where he was shown a collection of historic Ecuadorian documents.

The ambassador, a native of Quito, Ecuador, was in New Orleans to participate in the inauguration of the 14th Ecuadorian consulate on U.S. soil in a ceremony that took place on Tuesday. New Orleans was chosen as the location for the new consulate because it is an important entry point for Ecuador’s main imports, mostly oil, seafood, flowers and fresh vegetables.
