Harry Brown is a researcher at the International Center for Political and Social Studies (CIEPS) and a member of the National Research System (SNI).
He holds a PhD in Political Science and Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid. His research focuses on populism, democracy, political parties and elections in Panama and Latin America His most recent publications include the edited volume “El populismo en América Central” (2023), co-edited with María Esperanza Casullo and published by Siglo XXI Editores; and the paper “Democratización y neopatrimonialismo: ¿Hay una ola populista en Centroamérica?” (2023), co-authored with María Esperanza Casullo and published in Revista Mexicana de Sociología, Vol. 85, No. 2.
He is also the author of the books “El vencedor no aparece en la papeleta” (2018) and “Partidos políticos y elecciones en Panamá: un enfoque institucionalista” (2007), as well as editor and co-author of “Las reformas electorales en Panamá: claves de desarrollo humano para la toma de decisiones” (2010).
He served as Director of CIEPS from its founding in 2018 until 2024. He has taught political analysis in the Senior Management Program and in the INCAE Executive MBA. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Observatory of Political Reforms in Latin America (UNAM–OAS) and of the Advisory Board of the Informe Estado de la Región, based in Costa Rica.
He is a member of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA), the International Political Science Association (IPSA), and the Latin American Political Science Association (ALACIP).
