Biography
Gustavo Diaz is a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Inter-American Policy and Research at Tulane University. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on issues of accountability and representation in the Global South, as well as the development of quantitative research methods to study such questions. Gustavo is currently working on two main research programs. The first program examines the unintended electoral consequences of monitoring and exposing corruption that stem from politicians‘s strategic behavior, primarily in Brazil.
The second research program uses tools from design-based causal inference and machine learning to improve research design in experiments and observational studies implemented in the Global South, with emphasis on modeling interference dynamics and the design and analysis of survey and field experiments.
Gustavo’s work has been supported by the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His contributions appear in World Development and The SAGE Handbook for Research Methods in Political Science and International Relations.
