Biography

Emilia Simison is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Inter-American Policy and Research (CIPR) at Tulane University. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with specialization in Political Economy and Political Methodology.

Her research focuses on the comparative political economy of policymaking and policy change. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, she analyzes how political institutions across regime types shape the extent to which citizens and interest groups influence policymaking, and how that affects public policy. As part of this research agenda, her dissertation analyzes the relationship between regime types and public policies to better understand how, and under which conditions, policy change takes place as a consequence of regime type transitions.

Emilia’s work has been published in Comparative Politics, Comparative International Development, the Journal of Legislative Studies, and the Journal of Politics in Latin America, as well as in Latin American journals and edited volumes.
