Brazil’s experience in fighting corruption over the past generation offers a case study of tremendous value to anticorruption reformers the world over. At different moments, the country has followed distinct strategies, including an incrementalist approach to reform during the decades of the 1990s and 2000s, and a big-push court-led campaign against corruption in the 2010s. Drawing on his recent co-authored book on the topic, Brazilian Politics on Trial, Matthew Taylor will explore the trajectory of reform in Brazil, and reflect on the lessons, both positive and negative, from its turbulent recent history.
