Luis Rubén González Márquez recently earned a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Merced. His research agenda focuses on environmental and labor mobilization in marginalized territories. He currently works in his book project, which examines the political outcomes of opposition campaigns against renewable energy megaprojects in Central America. This project is based on a comparative-historical study of hydropower conflicts in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras between 1972 and 2019. Luis Rubén has featured in publications on anti-austerity collective action and protest music in Central America, climate action, environmental civic engagement in California’s San Joaquin Valley, and labor and popular mobilization in El Salvador. He has been recipient of the Fulbright-Laspau scholarship, the Dissertation Improvement Award Grant from the American Sociological Association-National Science Foundation (ASA-DDRIG) and the Dissertation Fellowship from the University of California’s Institute of Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC).
