José Incio is an Associate Professor in the Social Sciences Department at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh. His research studies electoral behavior, democratic backsliding, subnational politics, corruption, and political institutions in Latin America. He also works on new methods for political research, including computational text analysis and the use of large language models to study political texts.

He has published in journals like the Journal of Democracy, Comparative Political Studies, among others. Before joining PUCP, he worked at the Peruvian Ministry of Housing, the National Electoral Jury, and the National Office of Electoral Processes. At the National Electoral Jury, he built electoral data projects such as INFOGOB, an open dataset that covers Peruvian elections since 1931.

During his fellowship at CIPR, Incio will work on a book project about democratic backsliding in Latin America, built around the idea of legislative authoritarianism. He will also share methods for studying political texts with computer tools, and take part in the seminars and activities of the Center.
